Official State Song of West Virginia
In 2014 West Virginia adopted "Take Me Home Country Roads" by John Denver, Taffy Nivert, and Bill Canoff as an official state song. West Virginia recognizes three other state songs; "West Virginia, My Home Sweet Home" adopted in 1947, "The West Virginia Hills" adopted 1961, and "This is My West Virginia" adopted in 1963. "Take Me Home Country Roads" is played after every West Virginia University basketball and football game, and John Denver himself sang it in person at the dedication of Mountaineer Field in Morgantown in 1980.
