Official State Vegetable & Grain of Illinois
Illinois designated sweet corn as the official state vegetable in 2015. Elementary school students from Chatham, Illinois worked with their local legislator to propose a state vegetable to the General Assembly.
Illinois also adopted popcorn as the official state snack food in 2003, and effective January 1, 2018, corn will also be the official state grain. Illinois also recognizes a state fruit and an official state pie. All Food Symbols
