Official State Beverage of Wisconsin
Milk was designated the official state beverage of Wisconsin in 1987. Wisconsin is the nation’s leading milk-producing state and milk is very important to Wisconsin's economy (Wisconsin's slogan is "America's Dairyland"). All State Foods & Beverages
Milk is also represented on the U.S. Mint's commemorative quarter for Wisconsin, which features a round of cheese and a dairy cow (the official state domesticated animal of Wisconsin).
Milk has been called a nearly perfect food - a source of protein, calcium, and several other important nutrients. Each dairy cow produces about 6.5 gallons of milk per day; less than half of this milk is consumed as a beverage - the rest is used for butter, cheese, ice cream, milk powder, and other processed products.
